Wednesday January 25, 2012 Happy Birthday Jen and Katie
6 weeks to go until the Comox 1/2 marathon! A few weeks ago I was looking at the 9 week 1/2 marathon programs, now it is the 6 week ones. The program I have is 3 days a week workouts, 3 days crosstraining or easy runs. Put it off to today to start, but by the time I got out the door, it was cold and grey again, so did 14 minutes and came home. Tried out my Garmin again. I think it is definitely toast.
Run felt rough. Forgot knee braces. Did some though. So that leavers me with my 3 main runs to get in by Sunday! I'll do the easy program so one workout is 4-6 miles, the next 5-6 miles and last 8-10 miles.Ideally I would do 4-6 miles tomorrow, 5-6 on Saturday and 8-10 on Sunday.
Cobble Hill 10 K was cancelled on Sunday due to weather. Thank goodness. I was not ready. Ran 1 good run for 60 minutes at Byrons, then another for 30 minutes, but thats it. We have had snow and wind since then. Its over now.
There is a Chi running week in June that I would love to go to. It would cost about 2500.00 for fees and airfare. This si one of those things that if I could generate the money through "found" money ie selling things on Craigs list or whatever, I would love to do it. Otherwise 2500 seems steep. I guess its all a tradeoff.
I am going to star saving: My "found" money so far is:

Ran first race 2012
January 9, 2012 Monday
Yesterday was the first race of the Vancouver Island Race Series - the Saanich 8k. What was I thinking to go in a race that I have not trained for? In fact, I have only run 2 short little runs since New Zealand. The whole race I was thinking why am I doing this? Lorne drove down with me as no one else from Campbell River could give me a ride. I tried to keep up with the 70 year old ladies, but couldn't even do that! I guess the race was either inspiring or depressing. I came in 5th out of 6. I beat Maeling Shanks who came in 2nd last year. Time was 53:14. Last year 52:50. So, maybe the weight drop has helped, but no running has not helped.
Took today off. Have been looking at a 9 week beginners half marathon program. If I started training for the Comox 1/2 I would be getting runs in for the other races. Its a thought.
The other thought is going back off wheat and milk. Today I weigh 147.5 lb
There were 4 in the 70-74 age class for women. They all ran faster than me! So did the 80 year old men and all the 75-79 men. Maybe this is depressing. Anyways, I think I should build up for the 1/2 marathon and the Merville 15 k. Those are the 2 races that I might have a chance to do better on.
I also need to get another Garmin. Mine is toast. I miss the pace aspect. My Polar also is toast. I think it just needs a new battery.

Count up to marathon
January 4, 2012 Wednesday
This is an update.
Ran marathon in Reykjavik. Official time was 5:09:20. Felt good after race. Didn't run as hard as I could have. Watch quit part way through race so had no idea how fast I was running. Was glad that I didn't push it as spent the next 7 days driving around Iceland with Denise. Good times!
Now it is day 2 of Count up to Marathon. Why count up? I don't know when the next marathon or where the next marathon will be.
Today - a struggle to get out of bed. It was windy but 10 C. Ran the route past the museum to 6th and back - 20 minutes. Trying to work on my Chi form. I think it got lost over the Pacific or Atlantic sometime last November.
January 3, 2012 Tuesday
First day of running in the New Year and since New Zealand. Cold, really windy, and raining - long pants, blue hoody shirt, vest, yellow jacket.
Started out on our 5 k route. Stiff legged, 12 minutes into run had to return home due to my old problem.
Had decided on January 2 that I am not a runner. Then I ran into Sandra Milligan and she asked me if i was going to the race in Saanich on Sunday. What race? This Sunday? She said I could call if I wanted to carpool.
Looked up the race - 8k. Can I still run that far? Deja vue/ Don't I start every year wondering the same thing?
After feeling so thankful that I didn't have to run the new Year mile with the comox club because Jerry is in new Zealand.
Thought some more.Am I or am I not a runner. Who knows, but yesterday I signed up for the island race series - paid for the whole event. So now, at least twice a month I am a runner.
