Wheat Free

Saturday July 27, 2012

This is day 4 wheat free. I am trying out the wheat free thing again, but this time no exceptions.
Rode my bike in the Pink Salmon Festival parade. My knees were fine so may try riding my bike more.
Haven't run since before going to Calgary.
Began wheat free on Wednesday - 152 lb 40 35 40.  This morning I was 149.5 lb. Finally broke the 150 barrier!

Walking is good

Tuesday July 17, 2012

Didn't get a run in tonight but Becky and I walked up to Quality Foods and back. Wow, did I struggle up the hill to Merecroft! I used to run up that hill. I could barely walk up it. When I start getting into my longer runs, it will have to be part of my run. 151.5 lb today. I was hoping for 149 before Thursday so I could get my reward of a manicure.Maybe if I don't eat tomorrow.

Bits and Starts

Monday July 16, 2012    272 days to go

My running this past month has been sporadic, but hey, I have run 2 days in a row, so that is blog worthy. My runs takes me past 6th Ave as far as the rusty brown trailer and back approximately 20 minutes.

Diet - am on 95% wheat-free, milk-free. Pounds are not flying off but was 152 lb this morning. Have even tried the 2 Tbsp coconut oil a day. Clothes are supposed to be falling off your body after a week. Not so!
Good thing. -  I am getting a lot of support from Lorne about wheat-free, milk-free and no hassles from the rest of the family.

Won't be doing any running in Victoria. We have been invited to Morgan Roset's wedding so I will concentrate on the Miracle Beach 10 k. It is my goal to break 60 minutes this year.

New Marathon to Countdown

Tuesday June 12, 2012

Signed up for Team Diabetes Vienna Marathon April 14, 2013.  306 days to go.

Weight still 155.5. Have set up weight training area at home. Thinking about trying Body for life regime to get fit and lose weight.
Walked to work yesterday. Still struggling with getting up in the morning. Also struggling with being so tired at end of day. Went to sleep as soon as I got home from work and had to be awoken for dinner.
We built a platform in the old plum tree for the kids to climb on. We haven't told them so will wait and see how long it takes before they find it. Today it is raining so they probably won't come by the tree.

YO YO

Weight hit a new high today - 155.5 lb so how did I deal with it? Ate my oatmeal with apples then when Bertha brought a box of donuts to work ate an apple fritter. Not to mention the maple cream donut I had with Bonnie at Timmy's last night! or the mini blizzard I had for dessert after my McD's Fillet of fish for dinner. Arghhhh.

Good news - I walked to work yesterday and my knee was ok. I walked Dan from school and back to school and back home on Thursday and my knee was ok so maybe I am on the road to recovery with my knee. Yeah!
That has been a long time coming.

Hope to start with a 15 minute run this weekend and see if I can build up again. I bought new shoes. They are same last last Newtons except different. Brighter pink with yellow and orange and these are called trainers. They don't make the other model any more. Still called Distancia U.

The Outdoors Calls

But not loud enough for me to get out there.

Its been a long time since I blogged. Finished the island series with Bazan Bay 5 k Merville 15k and Sooke 10k.  PB 31:17 for 5k. Got two third place medals cuz only 3 runners and a third place island series medal cuz only 3 runners qualified.

Bought a book about running 3 times a week then crosstraining the other 2 days. It has times for Boston. I'm still a ways off to even try to qualify.
Have tentatively set my sights on Vienna April 2013 for Team Diabetes.
Depressed. Not getting out to run even when weather good. Weight gain - up to 154.5 lb. Every time I lose weight I swear  I won't let this happen again and here it is happening again .
Got all excited about training for the Twilight Shuffle 5k in June to see if I can get a better PB. Its all couch training. It seems good but isn't happening in life. Jerry is right. Consistency.
So that is my May 1, 2012
Breakfast:
glass of fresh squeezed orange juice
coffee with milk
10:00 carrot cake with cream cheese icing
 muffin, coffee with milk
1:00 Jr. Bacon Cheeseburger
5:30 small piece steak, asparagus, corn on the cob, yellow pepper
7:30 4 crackers with butter, 3 squares milk chocolate

Need motivation!

Wednesday January 25, 2012 Happy Birthday Jen and Katie

6 weeks to go until the Comox 1/2 marathon!  A few weeks ago I was looking at the 9 week 1/2 marathon programs, now it is the 6 week ones. The program I have is 3 days a week workouts, 3 days crosstraining or easy runs. Put it off to today to start, but by the time I got out the door, it was cold and grey again, so did 14 minutes and came home. Tried out my Garmin again. I think it is definitely toast.

Run felt rough. Forgot knee braces. Did some though. So that leavers me with my 3 main runs to get in by Sunday! I'll do the easy program so one workout is 4-6 miles, the next 5-6 miles and last 8-10 miles.Ideally I would do 4-6 miles tomorrow, 5-6 on Saturday and 8-10 on Sunday.

Cobble Hill 10 K was cancelled on Sunday due to weather. Thank goodness. I was not ready. Ran 1 good run for 60 minutes at Byrons, then another for 30 minutes, but thats it. We have had snow and wind since then. Its over now.

There is a Chi running week in June that I would love to go to. It would cost about 2500.00 for fees and airfare. This si one of those things that if I could generate the money through "found" money ie selling things on Craigs list or whatever, I would love to do it. Otherwise 2500 seems steep. I guess its all a tradeoff.

I am going to star saving: My "found" money so far is:
Art Gallery
Sun Life

Ran first race 2012

January 9, 2012 Monday

Yesterday was the first race of the Vancouver Island Race Series - the Saanich 8k. What was I thinking to go in a race that I have not trained for? In fact, I have only run 2 short little runs since New Zealand. The whole race I was thinking why am I doing this? Lorne drove down with me as no one else from Campbell River could give me a ride. I tried to keep up with the 70 year old ladies, but couldn't even do that! I guess the race was either inspiring or depressing. I came in 5th out of 6. I beat Maeling Shanks who came in 2nd last year. Time was 53:14. Last year 52:50. So, maybe the weight drop has helped, but no running has not helped.
Took today off. Have been looking at a 9 week beginners half marathon program. If I started training for the Comox 1/2 I would be getting runs in for the other races. Its a thought.

The other thought is going back off wheat and milk. Today I weigh 147.5 lb

There were 4 in the 70-74 age class for women. They all ran faster than me! So did the 80 year old men and all the 75-79 men.  Maybe this is depressing. Anyways, I think I should build up for the 1/2 marathon and the Merville 15 k. Those are the 2 races that I might have a chance to do better on.

I also need to get another Garmin. Mine is toast. I miss the pace aspect. My Polar also is toast. I think it just needs a new battery.

Count up to marathon

January 4, 2012 Wednesday

This is an update.
Ran marathon in Reykjavik. Official time was 5:09:20. Felt good after race. Didn't run as hard as I could have. Watch quit part way through race so had no idea how fast I was running. Was glad that I didn't push it as spent the next 7 days driving around Iceland with Denise. Good times!

Now it is day 2 of Count up to Marathon. Why count up? I don't know when the next marathon or where the next marathon will be.

Today - a struggle to get out of bed. It was windy but 10 C. Ran the route past the museum to 6th and back - 20 minutes. Trying to work on my Chi form. I think it got lost over the Pacific or Atlantic sometime last November.

January 3, 2012 Tuesday
First day of running in the New Year and since New Zealand. Cold, really windy, and raining - long pants, blue hoody shirt, vest, yellow jacket.
Started out on our 5 k route. Stiff legged, 12 minutes into run had to return home due to my old problem.

Had decided on January 2 that I am not a runner. Then I ran into Sandra Milligan and she asked me if i was going to the race in Saanich on Sunday. What race? This Sunday? She said I could call if I wanted to carpool.
Looked up the race - 8k. Can I still run that far? Deja vue/ Don't I start every year wondering the same thing?
After feeling so thankful that I didn't have to run the new Year mile with the comox club because Jerry is in new Zealand.

Thought some more.Am I or am I not a runner. Who knows, but yesterday I signed up for the island race series - paid for the whole event.  So now, at least twice a month I am a runner.
